Abstract:Chronic pain represents a significant global public health issue. With advancements in medical technology and improvements in healthcare security, home-based analgesia is increasingly becoming a shared expectation among hospitals, patients, and their families. Intrathecal drug delivery systems offer patients an effective analgesic option, in which patient self-monitoring and management constitute a primary factor in ensuring treatment efficacy and safety. Nevertheless, there remains a lack of structured guidance on self-management for patients undergoing home-based analgesia. To address this gap, the Pain Nursing Professional Committee of the Shanghai Nursing Association led the development of an expert consensus focusing on six key areas: information acquisition prior to home analgesia, routine maintenance and care of the intrathecal drug delivery system, identification and management of common system malfunctions, recognition, prevention, and management of adverse drug reactions related to the pump, self-assessment and proactive reporting, and guidance on daily living activities. This consensus aims to provide clinical healthcare professionals with evidence-based references for guiding patients in safe and effective self-management during home-based intrathecal analgesia.
