Abstract:Pain management has become a global priority, marked by significant advances in multidisciplinary collaboration and information technology, which have shifted practice from experience-based to precision and standardization. Despite these gains, key challenges in China persist: inconsistent care pathways, immature intelligent systems, and low involvement from pain pharmacists. Achieving precision and standardized pain pharmacotherapy remains the central goal. Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital’s full-cycle pain management model, driven by pain pharmacists, exemplifies effective precision pain care. This approach has lowered moderate-to-severe postoperative pain rates to under 10%, stabilized pain scores, and raised patient satisfaction. Using information technology, acute, chronic, and cancer pain cases are efficiently managed for all inpatients. Based on the practical case of pain management at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, this paper further clarifies the value of a multidisciplinary collaborative model with pain pharmacists’ in-depth participation in full-cycle pain management. Moving forward, efforts should focus on establishing a standardized training and certification system for pain pharmacists and optimizing an intelligent decision-support system that covers all scenarios of acute pain, chronic pain, and cancer-related pain, thereby advancing pain management in China toward the goals of precision and standardization.
