Abstract:The mechanism of utility of acupuncture and moxibustion has been a popular research topic in the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). With the rapid development of modern neurophysiology, molecular biology and gene editing technology, researchers can explore previously indistinguishable cell subtypes by different biomarker techniques, which provides a new research paradigm to explore the mechanism of action of different types of receptors on the body surface mediating the modulatory effects of acupuncture and moxibustion by using molecular markers as an entry point; however, a systematic summarization of the progress of the above studies is still lacking. In this paper, we reviewed the effects and mechanisms of TRP family, MRGPR family and other molecularly labeled C-polymodal?nociceptors in acupuncture analgesia and visceral regulation, which provide ideas for the molecular characterization and functional study of the initiators related to acupuncture afferents, and also provide potential directions for exploration of the development of the integration of traditional and modern medicine.
