Abstract:In addition to typical trigeminal neuralgia, other facial chronic pain in the distribution of the trigeminal nerve is still plaguing many patients. The effects of drug therapy, radiofrequency, microvascular decompression and other interventions are not ideal for most patients. Gasserian ganglion stimulation (GGS) is an electrical stimulation neuromodulation therapy targeting the gasserian ganglion of the trigeminal nerve. With the continuous development of technology, GGS will be more and more widely used in clinical practice, but there is a lack of research on its analgesic mechanism. There is also a lack of standardized indications and surgical procedures. This article discusses the treatment principle, indications, surgical approaches and possible development and application prospects of GGS in the future.
