Abstract:Epicrania Fugax (EF) was first proposed by Pareja et al in 2008. EF is characterized by brief paroxysmal head pain, with stabbing quality, extracranial in origin, along a linear or Z-shaped trajectory, lightning-like across the distribution of different nerves, often accompanied by autonomic symptoms. The etiology and pathogenesis of EF are still unclear, and there are few reported cases and related studies, making it easy to confuse with other types of headaches and neuropathic pain. This article summarizes and analyzes the clinical characteristics of 84 cases with EF reported and reviews the research history, diagnostic criteria, differential diagnosis, and treatment measures,in order to improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of the disease among clinicians.
