Abstract:Objective:? To explore the effects of adjuvant therapy with ozonsted water enema on pain and quality of life in patients with early and middle stage knee osteoarthritis. Methods: From December 2023 to March 2024, patients with early and middle stage knee osteoarthritis treated at Department of Pain of East Hospital, Affiliated to Tongji University were randomly assigned to two groups: one for drug treatment (control group) and another for drug treatment combined with ozonated water enema (ozone group), with 35 cases in each group. Oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication was administered to the control group in order to relieve pain; the patients in ozone group were treatde with ozonated water enema on the basis of the control group treatment. The two groups" pre- and post-treatmentnumeric rating scales (NRS) scores, hypersensitivity CRP (hs-CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6) (tumor necrosis factor-α; TNF-α), and quality of life scores(SF-36) were compared, and any negative reactions were noted. Results: 69 individuals finished the trial; one patient in the group receiving ozonated water enemas fell off. At one, two, and four weeks after treatment, the NRS scores in the ozone group declined more dramatically than in the control group (P < 0.05). The ozone group experienced a greater decrease in hs-CRP, IL-6, and TNF-α compared with the control group. The SF-36 score scale (physical pain, physiological function, physiological function, vitality, social function, emotional function, mental health, overall health) scored higher in ozone group than in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0. 05). Conclusion: Ozonate water enema can be added to drug treatment for early and middle stage knee osteoarthritis to significantly relieve pain, reduce inflammation, enhance quality of life, and offer a non-invasive, safe, and effective adjuvant treatment plan for painful knee osteoarthritis.
