Abstract:Objective: To compare the basic knowledge of palliative care pre- and post the teaching of palliative medicine and to evaluate the teaching effect during the COVID-19 period. Methods: Electronic questionnaire was used to compare the understanding of online and offline teaching and the basic palliative care knowledge. Results: 183 and 181 postgraduate students attended the survey before and after the teaching, and there were no significant difference in their basic situation. 65.03% and 74.59% of students thought online teaching affected their learning, but not significant (p=0.05); the understanding of the importance of palliative medicine, palliative care, symptom management and basic pain relief were significantly improved after teaching (p<0.05); But there is still confusion on the concept of palliative and hospice care. A good grasp of basic principles on ethical and terminal care were achieved after teaching. Conclusion: Online teaching may affect the learning effect, but it’s also a flexible and effective learning method; our teaching of palliative medicine is very effective;Future teaching should focus on ethical principles, connection and differences between palliative and hospice care and basic analgesic knowledge.
