Abstract:Osteoporosis ( OP) is a systemic metabolic bone disease that affects tens of millions of people around the world. Apart from causing fractures, the pain caused by OP is also a principal culprit for the decline of patients" quality of life. Different from the traditional single view of fracture-induced pain, osteoporotic pain ( OPP) may be related to the changes in bone metabolism, musculoskeletal structure, sensory, emotion, and cognition. However, the efficacy of commonly used analgesics is not completely satisfactory for this kind of pain. This article reviews the occurrence, management methods and research progress of OPP, to provide ideas for developing the mechanism-based, full- course and comprehensive management strategy of OPP.
