Abstract:Chronic pain has been classified and coded for the first time by the 11th edition of International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) which was published by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2018, however, the use of ICD-11 classification of chronic pain is still difficult in practice including epidemiological investigation, clinical diagnosis and treatment, and assessment of prognosis, mainly due to problems of symptoms-oriented and multiple 'parenting' coding. To provide a more practical one, the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) Working Group collaborating with WHO has developed a grading system for classification of chronic pain based upon revision of ICD-11. Based upon the publications of Narrative Reviews in the journal Pain (2019, volume 160, issue No. 1), here we provided with a Chinese version of 4-level diagnosis grading system for IASP classification of chronic pain for ICD-11. Hopefully, the Chinese 4-level diagnosis grading system would play very important roles in epidemiological investigations, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis assessment of chronic pain in both pain specialties and other clinical settings.
