Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effects of subcutaneous injection of alcohol or phenol glycerin at different concentration on the local derma in rabbits, and to assess the safety of clinical application of chemical neurolysis drugs. Methods:After subcutaneous injection of 2ml alcohol in 50%, 75%, 99.5% or phenol glycerin in 7.5%, 15%, the pathological changes of local derma and changes of behaviors were observed after 1 week, 1 month and 3 months. Results:Only slightly inflammatory responses were induced by alcohol in 50% and 75%, but severe dermal canker and necrosis occured in most rabbits which received 99.5% alcohol, 7.5% or 15% phenol glycerin subcutaneous injection. These severe dermal damages hawe not recovered within 1month.Conclusion:It would be safe to perform chemical neurolysis with 50% or 75% alcohol but not 99.5% alcohol or 7.5% or 15% phenol glycerin for subcutaneous injection.
