Abstract:Objective: To investigate the feature of the sensory and pain thresholds of the patients with acute and chronic pain, and select the suitable parameters of electro-acupuncture for the analgesic treatment. Methods: The sensory and pain thresholds of electro-acupuncture were measured respectively in 3 groups: the healthy persons, the patients with acute pain and the ones with chronic pain, and they were compared with each other in 3 groups. Results: The sensory and pain thresholds of the patients with acute pain were lower than ones of the health persons, much lower than ones of the patients with chronic pain (both P < 0.01). Conclusion: The patients with acute and chronic pain have different sensory and pain thresholds of electro-acupuncture. Comparatively, the patients with acute pain have lower sensory and pain thresholds of electro-acupuncture than the patients with chronic pain, and the patients with chronic pain have higher ones. Therefore, the use of the current intensity of electro-acupuncture should be different in accordance with each patient.
