Abstract:The pathogenesis of migraine is unclear, although considerable progress has been made in recent years. While the trigeminovascular hypothesis can delineate all the symptoms of migraine, it failed to elucidate the essential pathophysiology of migraine. Nitric oxide, a highly active small molecule, may be involved in the pathogenesis of migraine through relaxing the cerebral blood vessel, mediating perivascular neurogenic inflammation and facilitating the transmission of nociceptive information.
