Abstract:Objective: To observe the effect of treatment with stellate ganglion block (SGB) in the patient with spasmodic torticollis. Materials and Methods: Three patients after the onset of spsmodic torticollis from 4 months to 2 years. One patient showed rotating to right side of the head and neck continuously, and two showed tremors of the head frequently. Two of the patients had underwent medical or acupuncture treatment without any improvement. All the patients received SGB for the treatment of spasmodic torticollis with 2% lidocain 5 ml each time. At the begining, the drug was given once a day for 2 weeks, in the following 2 weeks the drug was administered once every other day, and twice a week for the last 2 weeks. The Tsui's score was used for evaluating the therapeutic effect. Results: in all 3 cases the symptoms were markedly improved 2 weeks after the treatment. The signs were almost disappeared 1 month later. The recurrence had not been found after 1, 5 and 7 months follow up respectively. Conclusion: The method of SGB has brought a new approach to the treatment of ST in cases when pharmacological and surgical treatment were not effective. This is probably the more secure and effective method for ST.
