Abstract:The effect of periaqueductal gray (PAG) injection of oxytocin (OT) and anti oxytocin serum (AOTS) on the pain threshold and electroacupunctjure (EA) analgesia in rats were investigated in this study. The potassium iontophoresis induced tail flick was used to measure the pain threshold. PAG injection of OT not only raise the pain threshold, but also enhanced the EA analgesia. Injection of AOTS could weaken the analgesic effect of EA significantly, but it did not change the pain threshold. These results suggest that endogenous oxytocin in the PAG may play a role in the electroacupuncture analgesia.
