Abstract:Epidural injection is a injection frequently used for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation, and Vitamin B_1 and B_(12)are among the most frequently used components of the injection. The aim of the present study was to determine whether the vitamins indeed play a role in the therapeutic effect. A total of 216 patients of lumbar disc herniation were given epidural injection once per week for 3 weeks. They were diveded into 2 groups: Group A,60 cases, received injection containing vitamin B_1 and B_(12); group B, 156 cases, received inj ection free of vitamins. The curative rate for group A and B was found to be 66.7%and 70.5%,respectively, showing no significant between-group difference, The results imply that addition of vitamin B1 and B12 in the epidural injection does not seem to increase the clinical effcacy for the treatment of lumbar disc hernia.
